The Circulatory System

              Diseases and Failures

There are many diseases that can occur in the Circulatory System. Arteriosclerosis and hypertension are the most serious. Arterlosclerosos is when fat deposits develop in the artries. The fat gets thicker, it stops or slows down blood flow in the arteries. Blood clots usually develop in blood vessels blocked by fat. When this happens heart attack or stoke can occur.
Most of the time people refer to Hypertention as 'high blood pressure', the condition is usually connected with Aterosclerosis because when the blood cant get through it raises blood pressure. Hypertension makes the heart work harder, it can lead to heart attck, stroke or kidney failure.
If an aneurysm happens to a vessel in the brain it kills brain cells and results in stroke. Strokes can also be caused by blood clots blocking flow of the blood to the brain. This is also called an embolism. An embolism can occur in other parts of the body but are most consequential in the brain.
The valves in your heart are important. They insure that blood in your body doesn't reverse directions. If a valve is defective it becomes more difficult to pump blood. Mitral valve prolapse is a very common disfunction. During mitral valve prolapse the valve that seperates the atrium and ventricle bulges back into the atrium when the ventricle contracts. It creates a murmur that is heard through a stethoscope. The signs that you might have mitral valve prolapse are chest pain, fatigue, and anxiety. It can be caused by bacteria called streptococcus.
